guide to how best to proceed if you feel you have been treated unfairly by a state administrator, or if you find yourself in a disagreement or dispute with a state agency, department, board or style=\"margin-top: 32px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">Try to resolve it at the agency, take notes, and make copies<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px;\">Follow these best practice recommendations for more positive results:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Be pleasant and decent. Treat workers with respect and courtesy. Act in accordance with the Golden Rule to \u201ctreat others as you wish to be treated.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Be patient. Research takes time. Workers must juggle many tasks and time demands.<\/li>\n<li>Be persistent. Give workers a reasonable amount of time, and then check back.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare. Gather data and material to explain and exhibit the situation logically.<\/li>\n<li>Outline or summarize your main points.<\/li>\n<li>Read what agencies send you and be mindful of directions and deadlines.<\/li>\n<li>Elevate to the supervisor and then the internal agency ombudsman if the front-line people do not understand you.<\/li>\n<li>Every state-level government agency is required to have an internal ombudsman, pursuant to A.R.S. \u00a741-1006 and A.A.C. \u201cRule\u201d R1-1-212.<\/li>\n<li>The agency\u2019s internal ombudsman is required to respond to communications within five business days.<\/li>\n<li>An oral complaint might be quick to solve a problem, but if it does not yield results, then file a written complaint. Spend time explaining yourself. Be professional. Cite exhibits when possible. This means a neighbor, a brother, or a concerned citizen cannot file a complaint on behalf of the person being effected by the problem without a power of attorney.<\/li>\n<li>We cannot take complaints from, or on behalf of, Arizona Department of Corrections prisoners.<\/li>\n<li>We do not look in to untimely complaints, where an unreasonable amount of time has passed since the issue at hand.<\/li>\n<li>The law [A.R.S. \u00a7\u00a7 41-1376(A)(5) and 41-1377(C)(1) and A.A.C.
