Can the Arizona Ombudsman Citizens’ Aide give me legal advice?

No. Our office cannot give you legal advice.

Can the Arizona Ombudsman Citizens’ Aide look in to complaints about attorneys, judges, or other court officials?

No. Our office has no jurisdiction over the judicial branch. We cannot help you resolve issues with, or take complaints about, attorneys judges or any other court official.

If I need assistance in finding an attorney, what should I do?

Check with your county bar association, see above referral information. They can often recommend an attorney in your county which specializes in the area of law you are dealing with. Maricopa and Pima County both have programs which set you up with a free consultation with an attorney after paying a low fee ($35 to 40) to the bar association.

If I am seeking free legal advice, what should I do?

Each county has a free legal aide service, see referrals above. These services cannot represent you in court.

If I am a senior citizen and am seeking free legal advice, what should I do?

Please see our above legal aide resources. You may also try calling your local Area Agency on Aging. They can tell you if there are any programs in your area which cater specifically to senior citizens. If you are in Maricopa county, you can call the Elder Law Hotline at 1-800-231-5441. They will be able to provide free legal advice and direct you elsewhere, if necessary.

How can I make a complaint about an attorney?

You can contact the State Bar of Arizona. Please see their website for complaint procedure and contact information.

How can I make a complaint about a judge?

If you do not agree with a judge’s decision, you should speak with an attorney to find out what sort of legal options you have. If you think the judge is acting unethically, you can file a complaint with the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct. If I feel that I am being discriminated against at my place of employment, where can I go for assistance?

The Civil Rights Division of the Attorney General’s Office enforces civil rights laws, increases public awareness of civil rights, and provides dispute resolution services. Persons who believe they have been discriminated against should contact the Attorney General’s office by calling 602-542-5263 or 1-877-491-5742.
